All About Me
I was born in upper Michigan and raised in Altus, Oklahoma, Madrid, Spain and right here in Austin! After graduating from UT Austin, I was an editorial assistant at a publishing company. I quickly learned that working in an office was not for me, and was lucky enough to get a job teaching French part time to grades K-8 at a private school. That was when I discovered I had a passion for writing curriculum, developing and teaching lessons, exploring culture, and working with intermediate and middle school students. I went back to school and got my teaching certificate so that I could embark on a new career! I was hired at West Ridge Middle School and taught 6th grade Language Arts for seven years. I am always looking for new challenges, and decided to move to the elementary level so that I could teach multiple subjects. I spent the next 12 years teaching 4th and 5th grades at Cedar Creek Elementary, and while I enjoyed that very much, I realized a couple of years ago that I wanted to be a part of the GT program and now I am fortunate to be teaching here at Hill Country!
My joys include reading, traveling, learning, and hanging out with my family. I am always searching for a good book to read (especially historical fiction)! Travel has been a passion since I was very young, and I love to experience new places! I am constantly reading articles about how to improve learning, and I enjoy attending educational conferences and workshops whenever I can.
My husband, Gary, is an 8th grade Algebra teacher at West Ridge Middle School and we have two amazing children. Kenneth is a 6th grader and Celia is a 3rd grader. My parents still live in Austin, which is a huge blessing! I also have 2 brothers, 1 sister, 4 nieces, and 8 nephews, all of whom live far away, so we love to get together on family vacations whenever we can!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns!
